Our History
Professionals Real Estate is an international real estate company that was founded in 1976 when a group of independent real estate agents decided to form a membership group.
A membership is different to a franchise in that a membership has no ‘owners’ or shareholders. The group was created ‘by the members, for the members’ and is not-for-profit. All fees paid by members are re-invested back into the delivery of products and services.
Professionals Real Estate Group has grown from its original 6 members to a network of over 300 offices throughout Australia, New Zealand, PNG, South Pacific Islands, South East Asia and now expanding into America. You can find all Professionals office contact information on our online member’s directory: www.professionals.com.au/membersdirectory.
In 1985 Professionals Papua New Guinea was formed under the management of Errol Dutton. He established the Professionals Port Moresby. In 1990 the Professionals Lae was formed when Mike Quinn established that office in partnership with the Professionals Port Moresby and Murray Fletcher. Later in 1992 the Professionals Port Moresby also opened a branch in Mount Hagen and in 1995 Mike Cassell of Madang Real Estate became Professionals Madang.
In 2001 the Professionals Port Moresby and Mount Hagen went into liquidation along with the holding company – Professionals Papua New Guinea Ltd. Mike Quinn, Murray Fletcher and Karen Quinn bought out the equity that Professionals Port Moresby had in Professionals Lae. Mike, Murray and Karen also established Professionals Niugini Ltd in 2003 which took over the licence for Professionals Real Estate Group in Papua New Guinea.
In 2005 representatives were appointed in Goroka – Ian Matthews, Rabaul – Tom Bullen and Wewak – Peter Johnston.
In 2006 two new full licences were issued. First was to Professionals NCD Real Estate Ltd which was formed by Agi Doko. Agi’s partners included Kaluwin Potuan and Professionals Lae Real Estate. The second was to Professionals Western Highlands Real Estate which was established by Jenny Ipata.
The Professionals Real Estate continues to be a significant force in real estate in Papua New Guinea. It is the only multinational real estate organisation to be represented in Papua New Guinea outside the capital – Port Moresby. It was heavily involved in the establishment of the Real Estate Industry Association – the industry lobby and representative group – and has adopted both the REIA and Professionals Real Estate Group codes of ethics.
Social Responsibility
Professionals take our social responsibilities within the community very seriously. We care for our members, our clients and the wider community as they are as much a part of our lives as we are a part of theirs.
In Papua New Guinea we support the Pink Ribbon Day and efforts to combat breast cancer in PNG. Australian Professionals has committed itself to the National Breast Cancer Foundation of Australia and the New Zealand Professionals are committed to Child Cancer Foundation in their country. Over the years the different International Groups have raised millions of dollars for these fantastic organisations and will continue our special relationship with them.
Other areas that we are concerned about in Papua New Guinea are:
Transparency – Papua New Guinea is facing unprecedented illegal dealings in real estate and all manner of activities. We support Transparency International and we advocate total transparency in all real estate dealings.
Corruption – endemic in both the private and public sectors is creating the undermining of the financial systems and procedures of both the private and public sectors with theft and “back hand” activities threatening the financial stability of the country.
Battered Women – the practice of men beating their wives and treating them as a possession is a practice that needs to be stamped out in Papua New Guinea. The concept of bride price has been prostituted by men to believe that their wives are possessions. This should not be tolerated.
Industry Improvements – the continued training of Papua New Guineans to be able to provide first world standards of service in the real estate industry will be a significant goal and failure to achieve this goal will not deter us from aspiring to improve our industry. We will maintain ourselves as prominent members of the Real Estate Industry Association and the ethics that are enshrined in their membership criteria.
